The linguistic diversity in Switzerland, and especially in the Canton of Vaud, may be seen as great cultural value and as an opportunity. Indeed, a wide range of languages is spoken in the canton, with a higher concentration in urban areas. The majority of the population schooled in the Canton of Vaud has been raised with mother tongues other than French, which makes many people multilingual and multicultural. Also, a high proportion of workers are proficient in international languages that facilitate international economic partnerships from which Switzerland benefits. The diversity of linguistic minority communities in the canton makes the Vaudois multilingualism an opportunity from an international perspective, and an extremely valuable cultural heritage.
